ABOUT THE BAND
|
BLAIR KILPATRICK plays the ACCORDION and does most of the singing with the band. She fell in love with Cajun music sixteen years ago, on the first of many trips to Louisiana. She has studied with many Cajun and Creole accordionists (Bois Sec Ardoin, Steve Riley, Delton Broussard, Eddie LeJeune, Jesse Legé) but her primary teacher and mentor was the late Danny Poullard--first at music camp, then at his weekly jam sessions.
STEVE TABAK played bluegrass Mandolin for 20 years--till he picked up the FIDDLE to join Blair on the accordion! He has been particularly influenced by Creole fiddle styles, and considers Ed Poullard to be his primary influence. He also makes a fine gumbo!
ROBERT RICHARD is a lifelong blues-roots-folk musician. He grew up in a French-speaking Acadian family in Maine, in a community with a long-standing musical soiree tradition. He and his GUITAR travelled to many places (including Louisiana) before he settled in the Bay Area.
KATHY "KP" PRICE was raised in Ohio, singing and playing piano. Her years of Cajun-Zydeco dancinag in the Bay Area rekindled her desire to make music, so she took up the electric BASS. She still dances, too!
We've been fortunate to play with some wonderful DRUMMERS: Kathy Dodge (our "regular" for many years), Lisa Leal (who moved to Oregon), and Bay Area favorite David "Killer" Hymowitz. Of course, sometimes we play in a simpler "back porch" style, with just the 4 of us, or 3, or 2.....
Our band history goes back to early 1999, when Blair started putting a group together. She and Steve were eventually joined by KP, Kathy, and then by Robert. Sauce Piquante has been performing publicly since the fall of 1999.

ABOUT THE JAM SESSIONS.......
BLAIR and STEVE starting hosting weekly jam sessions in 2001, shortly after their friend and mentor Danny Poullard died. They missed those weekly sessions in Danny's garage, the training ground for so many Cajun and zydeco musicians in the Bay Area. It's not the same without Danny, but they try to capture some of his spirit and comraderie. They welcome anyone with an honest desire to learn and play traditional Cajun-Creole music--including visitors who are passing through town. For more information, use one of the "contact us" links on the website.
